Welcome to The Victor Hugo in Guernsey Society

Victor Hugo Poetry Evening
Thursday 30th November
7.00 - 9.30pm at Les Cotils

Open to guests

This is to be an evening where members can discuss the poetic qualities of Hugo’s work in French and compare the poetry once translated into English. We hope that our French members will be able to express their “feelings” when reading Hugo’s poetry and other work so that English speakers can become aware of differences in translation.

Members are invited to pre-select verses of Hugo’s work from the attached “Essential Victor Hugo” contents list - or provide from elsewhere and to email their choice/material to Dinah on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. This is not compulsory! There will be examples available on the night in any case.

To assist the flow of words, and respecting the proximity to Christmas, there will be punch and mince pies available.

Charges:

  • No charge for members.
  • £5 per person for non-members.
  •  A glass of Punch and a Mince pie £5 (this needs to be ordered in advance - please tell Victoria).

Please advise Victoria of your intention to attend on 263209 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
